Massive Beef Recall

Can we talk? It's about ground beef, which isn't just of significantly lower quality than any other kind of beef; it's also got an exceptionally lousy safety record.

Today, that record got a little bit worse: Huntington Meat Packers of Montebello, California, recalled 864,000 pounds of ground beef. The meat, which was produced in 2008, may be contaminated with E. Coli.

A regular USDA safety inspection turned up the first signs of a problem, and an inspection of the factory's records broadened concerns. The meat in question includes ground beef, ground beef patties and burrito filling mix.

My advice? Opt for sustainably raised meat and avoid ground beef altogether.
