Meg Whitman's Big Gay Problem

Just what the hell does former eBay CEO (and current GOP candidate for Governor in California) Meg Whitman think about same-sex marriage? It's hard to say, and as best we can tell, you might need to be a rocket scientist or a trigonometry expert to figure this one out.
Case in point:
- Meg Whitman actively supported Proposition 8 and thinks that the word marriage is only reserved for a man and woman;
- Meg Whitman thinks that civil unions are OK for gay and lesbian couples;
- Meg Whitman thinks that gay and lesbian couples married before Proposition 8 passed should still be able to be married
Isn't that kind of like having your cake and eating it to? David Hauslaib over at Queerty and Owen Thomas over at Gawker have great pieces up today about the hypocrisy of Meg Whitman. Or maybe hypocrisy isn't the right word. Maybe mind-blowing spinelessness is a better fit. Because as best we can tell, Whitman is trying to pander to so many different audiences with her answer about same-sex marriage, that she's bound to please no one - those in favor of same-sex marriage, and those in favor of marriage discrimination.
But flip-flopping on politics isn't a new thing for Meg Whitman. She's got a history of it. Look at her political donations. One minute she's giving $4,000 to Senator Barbara Boxer (by any stretch one of the more progressive politicians in the Congress), and the next minute she's giving money to former Sen. George "macaca" Allen and Sen. Orrin Hatch, two of the most conservative members of Congress this past decade.
So does Meg Whitman have any political integrity?
