If nothing else, humanitarian work is perfect for acronym fetishists.  (One UN glossary of acronyms and abbreviations runs to 112 pages.) Anyhows, looking over the blog from the past few days, no shortage of confusing three and four letter combinations: MSF, ICRC, PCHR, UN, IDP, MCH, FDLR, etc etc.

So, to keep us all on the straight and narrow, many thanks to the good folks at Foreign Policy for compiling a list of the world's worst acronyms - part 1 is here, and part 2 is here.

One does wonder if anyone in the Moro Islamic Liberation Front ever had second thoughts about the name.

And, while we're at it - I still love the fact that the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs is named John Holmes.  No, not that John Holmes, though that would have been amusing, to say the least.
