Monitoring Coverage of LGBT Issues in the Media

NLGJA

You might be familiar with the likes of Media Matters for America or Fair in Accuracy in Reporting, who do a great job of monitoring media outlets for coverage of social issues (like LGBT rights) that's...well, anywhere from offensive to just insensitive.  Now, there's a new blog in town dedicated to ensuring fair and accurate coverage of news surrounding the LGBT population.

React to Your News (aka http://www.reacttoyournews.org) has launched, as a project of the National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association (NLGJA).  The site is a forum to discuss topics related to fair and accurate coverage of LGBT issues, and will feature writing from a handful of contributors, including writers with the Bay Area Reporter, POZ, and more.

Check it out.  Monitoring media coverage and creating a space where people can dialogue about how a "news" show covers LGBT issues is critically important.  How else can we hold outlets like Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, or even National Public Radio (as one of the current pieces up at reacttoyournews.org spotlights) accountable for their coverage of all things LGBT?
