More Bucks for Startups: Sequoia Injection at Y-Combinator

A montage of some of Sequoia's better known investments

According to VentureBeat, famed VC firm Sequoia Capital has injected $2 million into early stage funder and incubator Y-Combinator. The investment is a great indication that more traditional venture firms are recognizing shifts in the nature of supporting early stage startups.

Y-Combinator's model is based around finding simple internet-based businesses with clear paths to profitability, and giving them just enough cash, time, and connections to get a product in the field. They've found that while some of the companies they help go on to future investment rounds, there are actually some companies that achieve a minimum profitability just with the small injection from Y-Combinator.

I've very interested in the idea of project (and people) incubators and glad to see the tech sector experimenting with new ways to support aspiring entrepreneurs. Looking for the exciting new strategies of groups like Fast Forward Fund, the Global Social Entrepreneurship Institute, and All Day Buffet to bring it back to the social sector.
