More on Airplane Accommodations
Spring break is the week after next for Charlie and we're staying put right here in New Jersey. My parents are flying out to help take care of him as Jim and I are working. No big travel plans in the works for Jim and Charlie and me but, should you be planning a trip with someone who's on the spectrum, the Manchester Airport (UK) has, in conjunction with the National Autistic Society, put out a guide for parents and carers of children on the autism spectrum. It's available as a PDF file right here. The Air Travel blog at About.com has a write-up of the guide which, aside from sections on everything from getting to the airport to going through security to what happens to your suitcase (all illustrated with photos), has a "Worry Page" section (guess I could fill that out myself----I might need more space!).
Besides reading the guide myself and showing it to Charlie, I think it might be helpful to show a copy of it to airline staff if you're traveling and to suggest that this would be a great resource for other airlines to create----so the skies are friendly for all of us.
