Prop 8

Tomorrow evening, folks will be taking to the streets around the country (and indeed, around the continent) to rally in the wake of the Prop 8 decision, which is due to be announced by the California Supreme Court tomorrow.  Day of Decision, which was featured last night on NBC news (see the clip below), has announced that more than 90 cities, from Boston to Los Angeles, will be holding rallies tomorrow night.  What will the rallies look like?

Well, they'll look like a protest if:

  • The court upholds Prop 8, and invalidates the 18,000 same-sex marriage licenses that California already issued; or,
  • The court upholds Prop 8,  but upholds the 18,000 same-sex marriages already performed, which would be a cruel, but pyrrhic victory for equality.

And they'll look like a celebration if:

  • The court rejects Proposition 8 and says that same-sex couples are entitled to the marriage rights that heterosexual couples already have.

We won't know until tomorrow afternoon.  But, in the meantime, you can plan to attend one of the rallies happening around you.  Click here to see the more than 90 cities holding ralliesAnd Click here to join Day of Decision on Facebook.
