Netroots Nation Next Week: Check out the Panels & Blogger Competition

by Jen Nedeau · 2009-08-07 15:39:00 UTC

In case you didn't know, next week is Netroots Nation in Pittsburgh, PA, which is a conference that gathers progressive and activist bloggers from all over the country for a weekend of thoughtful discussion and fanfare. You'll be hearing a lot about it from me as I am preparing to participate in two panels -

Building a Conversation Across Generations of Progressive Women
Friday, August 14th 1:30 PM - 2:45 PM
Room: 317
Panelists: Gloria Feldt, Jen Nedeau, Joanne Bamberger, Tracy Viselli, Emily McKhann

Progressive women were the key to Barack Obama's victory in 2008, but not all progressive women saw eye to eye on the Democratic campaign. Some felt Hillary Clinton was not treated fairly in the campaign, yet others felt differently. Feelings still run deep over who was the better candidate for progressives. Now that the election's over, how do progressive women come together to work toward common goals and issues? Women from their 20s to 60s will discuss differences of opinion and talk about how they find common ground moving forward to promote and preserve the progressive agenda.

Twitter: Separating the Hype from the Reality
Saturday, August 15th 3:00 PM - 4:15 PM
Room: 307
Trainers: Adam Greene, Jen Nedeau

This new medium is rising faster than any other social networking platform, but is it destined to be overloaded with celebrity gossip and trivia or will it become a revolutionary tool for social change? We will explore it's strengths and limitations as we work to separate the hype from Reality on using Twitter to organizing online.

In addition, CREDO Mobile and Netroots Nation are teaming on the Blogger Awards Program, under which three deserving bloggers will win a BlackBerry Curve Smartphone and one year's unlimited service from CREDO. (All told, a prize worth about $2400 - which I could totally use right now).

Here's how it works. They will be awarding one prize in each of three categories: the best national, state or local, and activist bloggers.

So, between now and 10 AM EDT August 15, you're invited to text in your votes to 27336 (that spells CREDO) in the following format: keyword bloggername.

Here's an example - if you'd like to vote for this blog - just text the following to the number 27336: activist jennedeau

Winners will be announced the evening of Saturday August 15th at the Netroots Nation conference in Pittsburg.

You can of course vote for whoever you like, but if you want to help me win, send a text to CREDO on my behalf!

Full contest rules are posted on the Mobile Apptitude blog.
