New York Post Cartoonist: Racist and Homophobic

(We hate including an image like the one above, but bear with us, as it's a prime example of how the New York Post has been peddling both racism and homophobia on their editorial pages.)
By now, most folks have heard about the insanely tasteless cartoon that ran in the New York Post this week from cartoonist Sean Delonas. The cartoon depicted two white police officers standing over a dead chimpanzee (long a racist caricature of African Americans) with two bullet holes in it, with the caption "They'll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill."
It's pretty disgusting and racist, even by New York Post standards. But as the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) is pointing out this weekend, Sean Delonas has a long history of putting out inflammatory, racist and homophobic cartoons (like the one pictured above). According to Media Matters for America:
Sean Delonas has a history of defamatory work and we stand with those who decry this recent cartoon as unacceptable and a vicious portrayal that neither enlightens nor entertains. It’s unacceptable that the New York Post continues to provide a platform for such instances of hateful defamation.
Unacceptable indeed. Lee Dorsey, a member here at gayrights.change.org, has started an action alert on our site for folks to pledge to contact the New York Post to demand that the New York Post stop giving a prominent platform to a cartoonist who has consistently made GLAAD's list of "Worst Annual Defamers" when it comes to LGBT rights. Please, contact the New York Post and tell them that people deserve better than the offensive material being peddled by Sean Delonas.
Oh, and in case you'd like more proof of how inflammatory Delonas has been with his cartoons, Media Matters has an excellent slideshow, which you can view here. You'll likely come to the conclusion, like we did, that Delonas is not only racist, he's homophobic, too.
