"No Excuses" Accountability and Transparency - for Ed Leaders?
The White House promises a new openness, and so does WhiteHouse.gov. It's blogging now, among other things, and allowing comments both favorable and critical (and, inevitably, spammy and self-promotional). The first post gives the mission:
Just like your new government, WhiteHouse.gov and the rest of the Administration's online programs will put citizens first. Our initial new media efforts will center around three priorities: Communication. Transparency. Participation.
You can guess where I want to take this. If the highest office in the land is willing to do this, should educationl leaders, from local principals and superintendents to state boards and so on, do the same? How many are doing it already, and with what results?
If they're not doing it, and you believe it's something they should, what sort of "communication, transparency, and participation" do you think such a site should offer?
Here's a vid from the White House's Technology, Innovation, and Government Reform team with more (h/t to TWAIN in "Techxas")
(And if anybody wants to question the efficacy of openness like this to create change, or what it would take to make it worth the effort, that's an interesting discussion to have as well.)
