No on Prop 8 Rally...in Utah?

LDS rallyHow's this for solidarity?  A group of Mormon mothers in Salt Lake City gathered on Sunday to stand up for marriage equality and call for California voters to defeat Prop 8. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS) isn't necessarily synonymous with marriage equality.  Members of the LDS church have been funneling money into California, to the tune of more than $20 million, to pass Proposition 8.

These mothers gathered because they have gay and lesbian children who will be harmed by the passage of Prop 8.  This vigil is an attempt to support and stand with those children.

Millie Watts wears a rainbow friendship necklace for her gay son and lesbian daughter. She hopes her LDS brothers and sisters in favor of Prop. 8 will be understanding.

"I do understand the need to support the church...on this issue I would ask [the church] to educate themselves more on homosexuality and think about us those of us who are having a hard time with this issue," Watts said.

No matter how the Yes on 8 campaign tries to spin it, there's a diverse group of religious leaders stepping out to reject Prop 8.  It's great to see these LDS mothers standing up, too.
