Yesterday, Change.org announced their exciting new Changemakers Initiative. Change.org's Changemakers Network will include a select group of prominent activists, elected officials, authors, bloggers, actors, musicians and thought leaders who have demonstrated the ability to create change on one or more issues of importance. Each Changemaker will be invited to periodically write on an issue they’re passionate about and have their content featured on Change.org and pushed throughout our network of 500,000 activists, 4000 organizational partners, and 20,000 affiliated bloggers.

There are already a number of leaders and activists in the human trafficking field who have been nominated, from celebrities like Ashton Kutcher to politicians like Colin Powell to NGO leaders like David Batstone and Mark Lagon. But I know (and you know) there are hundreds of unsung heroes out there doing significant and corageous work to end human trafficking in their communities and around the world. If you know a human trafficking Changemaker, you can nominate that person here. Or, you can vote for your favorite Changemaker here.

Human trafficking has gotten more attention from prominent public figures in the last couple years than ever before, but it remains a niche issue, especially when compared with other social justice related issues. We need Changemakers lending their voices to the fight for better laws, more services for survivors, enforced penalties against traffickers and facilitators, greater awareness, and increased corporate responsibility. This is an opportunity for those who care about this issue to welcome it to the center of the national and international stage. I've been honored, thus far, to be an opening act for what I hope will be some of the greatest minds and personalities of our time speaking out against slavery and inspiring a world community to action.

Please, take a few minutes to nominate and vote for human trafficking Changemakers. It's one easy way you can truly be the change you wish to see.
