Numbers Due Out Today on Both Sides of Prop 8

no on 8As Laurie Goodstein writes for the NY Times today, numbers are due out today to show how much each side of the Proposition 8 battle has raised. Finally last week, for the first time, opponents of Proposition 8 (the good side!) had surpassed Prop 8 supporters in fundraising - a necessary call to arms in part led by the blogger community, to combat the massive amount of funding being poured into the state by outside sources, including the Mormon Church, the Knights of Columbus, and a host of other out-of-state evangelical groups.

Putting aside the fact that supporters of marriage equality have now out-raised those that would write bigotry into the California constitution, isn't it worth noting that the VAST MAJORITY of funds being used to push Prop 8 are coming from outside of California?

If we can defeat this thing, we're not only helping California sustain marriage equality, we're sending a message nationwide that bigotry and discrimination touted in the name of God is wrong.  Check us out later today for an update on where the fundraising numbers fall for each side of Prop 8.  And go to No On Prop 8's Web site for the latest information on efforts to defeat this measure.
