Obama to Announce Jobs Program Today

President Obama is expected to announce a 3-pronged jobs initiative this morning, that emphasizes helping small businesses grow, rebuilding our nation's infrastructure, and providing rebates for consumers to retrofit their homes. Hopefully the latter also includes training for workers to perform this energy efficiency work. Some TARP money will be used to pay for the program.

Will the resources be substantial enough to support these programs, or will they be spread too thin across multiple initiatives instead? Are these the best programs to tackle our jobless recovery?

In other jobs news, unemployment benefits are set to expire this month unless Congress takes action. Health benefits (i.e., COBRA) have already expired. Apparently there is bipartisan support in Congress to renew the benefits, to forestall the "disaster" states fear if there's any gap in the programs.

More to come here at Poverty in America after Obama's speech today. In the interim, discuss. Unbridled speculation and idea generation and exchange welcome!
