Open Thread: Bill Gates on TED: Hero or Villain?

by Clay Burell · 2009-02-17 08:00:00 UTC

I've taken notes on the entire 18-minute TED Talk Bill Gates gave last week, and I have much to say. But I'd really love to hear your views first.

Without tipping my hand - which is frankly ambivalent right now anyway - I can guarantee anybody with brains behind their eyes that this speech will be one of the most bizarre things they've seen in years, if watched with eyes open.

When the richest man in America sets his mind - and his $57 billion bank account - to "fixing the teaching problem," in a speech called "How I'm Trying to Change the World Now," we'd better pay attention.

The speech has generated a lot of attention and controversy, and for better  reasons than the silly stunt at about five minutes in. Please, please, please: your thoughts below. I'll be back with mine later.
