Pope's Top Diplomat Hates on LGBT Folks

Tarcisio BertoneProving that Pope Benedict XVI isn't the only one who can hate on gays and lesbians, the Vatican's Secretary of State, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone has lashed out at the country of Spain for promoting homosexual marriage.  In a visit to the country last week, Cardinal Bertone criticized Spain's recognition of same-sex marriage (one of a handful of European countries to recognize same-sex unions), as well as blasted the Spanish government for launching an Education for Citizenship program that the Catholic Church thinks will spread homosexuality throughout Spain's schools.

Nary a week goes by anymore where Pope Benedict XVI's Papacy isn't welcoming Holocaust deniers back into the flock, siding with Sudan and Saudi Arabia on criminalizing homosexuality, or focusing on weeding out gays and lesbians from seminaries and women's religious communities. *sigh*

We should add that we're still waiting for the liberal Catholic political organizations - Catholics United, Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good - to speak out on LGBT justice-related issues.  Is there a progressive Catholic voice out there willing to stand up for LGBT civil rights?
