Presidential Appointments Project Helps Obama Tap LGBT Leaders for his Administration

Barack ObamaThe Gay and Lesbian Leadership Institute (GLLI) is leading an effort to make sure that President Obama is well aware of the many qualified LGBT candidates that might be available to serve in his administration come January 2009. The Presidential Appointments Project (PAP), which is being spear-headed by GLLI, will serve as a talent bank for openly LGBT professionals seeking appointed positions in Obama's administration. Their goal is to make sure that qualified LGBT candidates are considered for federal employment positions, now that there's going to be some serious hiring going on inside the Beltway.

How does it work? Well, PAP (which is what I used to call my grandfather! FYI...) asks candidates that may be interested to consider the following things:

  • Are you willing to work long, intense hours?
  • Are you willing to face publicity and press scrutiny?
  • Do you have any concerns with undergoing an FBI criminal background check and having your employment, professional, personal, travel, medical, financial, legal, military and educational histories reviewed?
  • Will you be able to disclose your financial holdings and sources of income?
  • Are you willing to curtail your dealings with the Federal Government both during any potential employment and for a period of time after any employments ends?

If you can meet all of those requirements, have a genuine interest in working for a President Obama, and have 30 minutes to sit down and fill out an application, check out the Presidential Appointments Project. The Institute promises to show the applications of qualified applicants to President-Elect Obama's transition team.
