Recommended Reading, May 28, 2009

I know I just did list of recommended readings, but I ran into so much great stuff today that I wanted to do another right away. Enjoy!
Karen Grepin has put together a reading list of books on global health. I am embarassed to admit I've read most, but not all of them.
A long review of a book about AIDS denialists. You know how I feel about them. The book agrees.
This article about the WHO, the Wall Street Journal, and DDT to fight malaria is a very insiderish piece of writing, but it's an excellent snapshot into the politics and personalities of this kind of work.
HIV vaccine hopes. This gets kind of medical for me, but it sounds like we've got some breakthroughs that may lead to other breakthroughs, that could then maybe lead to a vaccine. Hooray? (Wow, that description made me feel a bit like Jackie Harvey)
The Paul Farmer/Obama administration situation just keeps getting more complicated. Now it looks like he'll be heading up the Harvard Medical School global health department, and possibility taking a sabbatical to work for the Obama team.
The WHO has issued new guidelines on drinking water quality. Water's just going to keep on getting more serious as a problem, so you might as well bone up on it now.
ActionAid's got new case studies on why good primary health care and strong health systems are essential to fighting HIV. To this I say yes, yes, and more yes.
