Resource-Share: IssueLab on Sex Education

From the "How Ridiculous Can Sex (Un-)Education Get?" file:

As Texas schools continue following an abstinence-is-best approach to sex education, Houston gynecologists say more mothers are asking them to have “the talk” with their young daughters.
--Houston Chronicle

I'm happy to pass on this email, with permission, from Gabriela at IssueLab.org. I checked it out, and it really is a great resource for sex education and much, much more. (And by the way, if you haven't signed the petition to say No to Abstinence Only sex education, please do. As Gabriela notes, the issue is up for legislation, so now's the time to sound off.)

Hi Clay:

I was just reading your March post about sex education and wanted to thank you first of all for covering an issue that frankly cannot receive enough coverage!

I also wanted to point you to a new collection of research from nonprofits on the topic of sex education and abstinence training. http://birdsandbees.issuelab.org/research Many of these orgs bring an "on the ground" perspective to questions about sex ed that is missing from more academic circles.

With related legislation having been recently introduced on the issue, I was hoping you might consider doing a follow up post on the subject or even just linking to this collection of research so others can more easily get their hands on this research. Let me know what you think.

I also encourage you to check out IssueLab and subscribe to our enewsletter (and/or RSS feeds) for updates on nonprofit produced research on wide range of education issues. http://www.issuelab.org/enews

Gabriela
