RoundUp Toxicity Studied
Homeowners spray RoundUp on their lawn weeds, then pets and children go out and play in the grass. Farm operators spray their RoundUp Ready crops with it and send hapless workers almost immediately out into the fields.
Now there are new published results indicating that even at residual concentrations too low to act as an herbicide, Monsanto's glyphosate herbicide causes cell death (apoptosis) and DNA damage, as well as stifles cell respiration. The results also indicate that the inactive ingredients in RoundUp formulations aren't biologically inactive, but increase cell permeability (how easy it is for unwanted things to enter a cell) and the toxicity of the glyphosate itself.
Why wasn't this research done earlier, maybe before RoundUp was approved for common use? On second thought, that question answers itself. It wouldn't do to interrupt the flow of profits.
