Sen. Barbara Boxer's Moment to Fight Youth Crime and Violence

Joining 16 other sponsors, nine-term California senator, Sen. Barbara Boxer, vowed in person to give her support for S.435, a piece of legislation better known as the Youth PROMISE Act. This bill is bipartisan legislation intended to improve the safety of  communities while advancing every young person's chance for a positive future. To address rampant youth crime and violence, the Youth PROMISE ACT would target communities most at risk to institute proven crime and violence prevention and intervention programs.

Indeed, it's great to have Sen. Boxer's verbal commitment to support this bill. But now we need her official name down as a co-sponsor, especially as the legislative period for the current session of Congress draws to a close. Won't you take a moment to ask Sen. Barbara Boxer to follow through with her verbal promise, and become an official co-sponsor of the Youth PROMISE Act?

Referred to the Committee on the Judiciary more than 18-months ago, the Youth PROMISE Act and the future of America's children are in need of support by our legislators, particularly by those with Sen. Boxer's experience and influence. S.435's House companion bill, H.R.1064 has already managed to navigate six subcommittees and gain the endorsement of 236 representatives. Meanwhile the senate bill has made little headway since its 2009 introduction to the senate floor. And that's just not good enough for America's children.

If this historic and much needed legislation gets to President Obama's desk, it will be because of the will and dedication to this nation's children by our elected officials in Congress. We're on the precipice of adding the Youth PROMISE Act to Sen. Boxer's long commitment to justice and human rights.

Send a message to Senator Barbara Boxer today and ask for her much needed support for America's youth and the Youth PROMISE Act.
