Small Farm Lobby Day on Wednesday
The National Independent Consumers and Farmers Association (NICFA) is hosting its fourth annual National Small Farm and Ranch Grassroots Lobby Day this Wednesday, March 10, in Washington, D.C. Lobbying (people — like you! — meeting with legislative aides) will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and a local foods reception will occur from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in Room SD-106 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building.
Joel Salatin of Polyface Farm will emcee the event, and speakers will include homesteader Doreen Hannes, host of Truth Farmer Radio and NICFA Director of Research; David Gumpert of The Complete Patient Blog; Joan Veon of Women's Media Group; and Spike Gjerde, chef and owner of the farm-to-table Woodberry Kitchen in Baltimore. Congressman Ron Paul has been invited to speak.
People who can be in the capital that day are invited to attend and encouraged to set up a meeting with their legislators' agricultural aides. Those not in D.C. can call in their opinion from afar. If the idea of "lobbying" intimidates you, never fear: NICFA is holding two lobby training conference calls to help people learn the ropes.
