Several news sources report that the Chadian air force conducted a a series of air strikes in Darfur yesterday --- as if the beleaguered region hasn't seen enough bomb-action lately.

From Sudan Tribune:

Three Chadian aircrafts bombed the area of Jabel Sandu south of El Geneina, which lies about 60 kilometers inside Sudan. The Chadian airplanes raided twice the area, the first attack was at 10:00am and the second raid at 01:30 pm local time.

From Al-Jazeera:

Mahamat Hissene, a government spokesman, told reporters that Chad "is surprised to learn that the regime in Khartoum is protesting against action by the Chadian air force on Sudanese territory".

Hissene said that any confrontations would be "simply the consequence of the attack on Chad organised by Sudan, using mercenaries armed, trained, financed and directed by satellite by the Khartoum regime".

An official from the Sudanese foreign ministry was, naturally, less than pleased, noting that the raid constitutes an act of war, and warning that "the Government of Chad has to bear the consequences of this aggression."

Prognosis: Oy-freaking-vay.
