Stupak Sounds Off on “Good Morning America”

I agree with President Obama: It's time to pass real health-care reform that will make a difference in everyone's lives.

NARAL Pro-Choice America is going to continue to work with the president, our allies in Congress, and other progressive partners in making this critical change a reality. Our first order of business -- while the bill is with the House -- is taking on anti-choice Rep. Bart Stupak.

Rep. Stupak told George Stephanopoulos on "Good Morning America" that he would bring down the entire bill unless there is a complete abortion-coverage ban in the new health system.

Watch it here:

So this is what we must accomplish: pass health reform without undermining women's access to abortion coverage.

Will it be easy? Nope. You remember the vote counts. The House approved the Stupak-Pitts abortion-coverage ban by a vote of 240-194 back in November. And health-care legislation only passed by five votes.

That's why, at this critical juncture in the debate, NARAL Pro-Choice America activists are taking action to support our congressional allies who are standing up to these attacks. We need to let the House of Representatives' strongest pro-choice leaders know that we support their efforts to beat back Rep. Stupak's abortion-coverage ban.

At this critical time, they need to hear from us. Your signature is going to help give our leaders an even more powerful voice to persuade colleagues to change votes as they go into a major showdown in the House in the days ahead.

More than 14,000 people have already signed onto our letter to pro-choice leaders in the House.  I hope you'll add your name.
