Support the Gulf Coast Civic Works Campaign

For over a year now, Gulf Coast residents, non-profits, coalitions and their allies across the country have been pushing for a major civic works project to rebuild the region. In some ways, this elevates, organizes and finally adequately funds the volunteer, private and non-profit energy that's poured into the region since the storm - largely in absence of federal investment. The Gulf Coast Civic Works Act, introduced in the House (HR 2269) this month, brings that criticial federal involvement onboard.
The bi-partisan bill
would create 100,000 “green” living wage jobs and training opportunities for Gulf Coast residents and displaced people to rebuild critical infrastructure, restore natural flood protection and increase energy efficiency. This important legislation allows the federal government to partner directly with local leaders and non-profits to address remaining recovery challenges while building resilience to climate change, mitigating the effects of future deadly storms and confronting poverty. It also addresses the challenges faced by internally displaced, elderly, disabled, women, low income, immigrant and minority communities.
My emphases. I have had the pleasure of working with a number of the activists behind this bill, and I strongly recommend Change.org members add their voices to the growing group pushing for passage of this bill.
