Ted Kennedy's Impact on Every Level of Education

Ted Kennedy's impact on education reform has been broad and dramatic, with everyone from MTV to Education Week praising his efforts. In 2001 he teamed up with George W. Bush to gain passage of the No Child Left Behind legislation. Dennis Van Roekel, president of the National Education Association told the LA Times that Kennedy's legacy goes way back—he left "an indelible imprint on every major education law passed since the 1960s."
Kennedy's impact stretches into higher education, having "had a hand in the creation of nearly every major federal student-aid program," writes the Chronicle. MTV choose to stress Kennedy's impact on the lives of young people, as he has worked to encourage teachers to train with disadvantaged students, and praised his work amending the Voting Rights Act of 1970 to lower the voting age to 18.
