The Extraordinaries Wins at We Media!

On-demand volunteerism organization The Extraordinaries has just won $25,000 in the We Media Miami 09 Pitch It! competition.
We Media convenes some of the best and the brightest minds - individuals, companies, and nonprofits alike - using the power of crowds to reshape how we interact with journalism, media, and other information:
The 2009 conference features game changers: people, projects, ideas and organizations leading change and inspiring a better world through media. Whether through exceptional story-telling, novel business models, significant social impact, brilliant design or powerful vision, the game changers featured at We Media serve as beacons of inspiration for the next generation of innovators. They influence and inspire what comes next in communications, business, news, information, public policy, commerce, education and social entrepreneurship in the connected culture.
The Pitch It! competition was a chance for up and coming companies and nonprofit organizations to pitch their big idea and win support and funding. Out of a pool of about 350 organizations, our friends at The Extraordinaries won the top $25,000 prize for nonprofits.
From the We Media blog post announcing the prize:
Smartphone software that allows someone to use micro amounts of spare time for social good. [The Extraordinaries] deliver volunteer tasks on-demand directly to the phone like a stream of new adventures, that people complete on the phone in a few minutes, while riding the bus or waiting in line. It’s information age volunteerism, enabling doctors, scientists, organizations, and more to harness the power of the crowd.
In the words of Extraordinaries co-founder Jacob Colker:
Congrats to The Extraordinaries on their win and the entire We Media Miami 09 team for what looked like an incredible event.
