The Fight for Darfur Continues - We Need Your Voice

Libya. Egypt. Syria. Big names getting big headlines right now - and for good reason. Africa and the Middle East are in the midst of an uprising--a swell of populist support for human rights and democracy. These are equally promising and dangerous times for the entire region, and they all deserve our support as they work so hard to achieve the goals of the people.

Today I ask you to speak out for a place that has fallen out of the headlines in recent years. A place that has been struggling for the last decade to reach some sort of peace from the ongoing campaign of violence against their people.

Darfur.

The people of Darfur have suffered through so much pain and violence- much of the basic information you already know: 300,000 killed and millions still living in refugee and IDP camps. Here’s what you might not know: innocent men, women and children are still being killed, assaulted and displaced. Entire villages are still being burned to the ground. The people of Darfur are still calling for our help.

However, there is good news: Right now, we have a window of opportunity to influence the peace process for Darfur and we're calling on one of the President's most trusted advisors, Denis McDonough, to make sure we seize this opportunity. Mr. McDonough worked diligently to help usher in a peaceful January referendum for South Sudan, and we’re asking him to extend our government's commitment to Sudan by taking these important next steps for Darfur.

We'll be continuing to advocate for Darfur until there is peace, and we hope you will continue to raise your voice with us. Find out more at www.sudanactionnow.org and sign our Change.org petition today.
