The Gay Glass Ceiling Almost Cracks with Obama's First High Level LGBT Appointment

ObamaSo it's not a cabinet position, but President-Elect Barack Obama has made his first senior level appointment to a member of the LGBT community, naming out lesbian Nancy Sutley to be chairwoman of the White House Council on Environmental Quality.

There's still that gay glass ceiling when it comes to having an openly LGBT person serving in the Cabinet, but this is still historic news.  Sutley is currently the Deputy Mayor for Energy and Environment for the City of Los Angeles.  She's also on the board of Directors for the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California and has served on the California State Water Resources Control Board.

In other words, she's got it together.  The first LGBT person named to Obama's administration is a rock star.  Now let's see if Obama will break the ultimate glass ceiling and name an LGBT person, perhaps a certain Labor leader, to a Cabinet position.
