The Other Side of the Big Game

With the Super Bowl a few hours away, I want to point to two important posts on change.org this week about the injustice on the game's hidden fringe.
Shannon Moriarty wrote on the End Homelessness blog about aggressive efforts by police to round up and hide Tampa's homeless population. Over the End Human Trafficking blog today, Amanda Kloer writes about the connection between major sporting events and women and children forced into prostitution.
Another story that caught my eye came from the AP yesterday, reporting on the disparity between $1,000 Superbowl tickets and a bread line just two miles away. The NFL says it tries to bring some lasting impact when the circus comes to town, but building a $1 million football field for disadvantaged youth isn't exactly the kind of thing that will put food on the table in the tough months ahead.
