The Real Consequences of Gay Marriage

Below I think you'll find perhaps the best infographic anyone has ever made. Take that, cover of USA Today!

We've all heard the platitudes of the anti-gay crowd, warning that gay marriage will lead to destructive and disastrous things. Heck, in the wake of yesterday's ruling in California that declared Proposition 8 unconstitutional, scores of anti-gay organizations weighed in with their doomsday scenarios. Concerned Women for America cooed that "marriage is not a political toy," and condemned the ruling. Focus on the Family barked that same-sex marriage would hurt children who "need both a mom and a dad." And the National Organization for Marriage cackled that people should always be allowed to vote on the civil rights of others.

You've heard the line "Same bat time, same bat channel"? Seems to apply here. But despite what these groups continue to argue, evidence (you know, that funny stuff rooted in reality that countries are supposed to make laws from?) points to what Judge Vaughn Walker so eloquently said yesterday: there is no rational basis to deny gay and lesbian couples the right to marry.

Which brings us to the best infographic you'll see today. Here it is. No, there won't be any climate disasters, and no world wars. Just (hopefully someday soon) an avalanche of love taking over the country. The graphic comes from Aaron G, and it's a doozy. Head on over to that link and vote it on up.
