The Sustainable Food Revolution Will Not Be Limited To L.A.

Los Angeles is seeing a sustainable food revolution! It's sometimes hard to appreciate the huge gains that are being made, but like the increase in number of small farmers we reported yesterday, there is concrete progress being made everyday.

In LA, there's a dozen signs that a sustainable food revolution is happening. From CSA programs to new locavore restaurants, access to sustainable food is changing. Urban farmers are helping supply the food, whilst organic gardening classes are helping people green their fingers. Grassroots organizations are sharing the wealth, allowing locals to share any overabundance of produce with neighbours, to fight urban hunger. While institutions like Slow Food, the LA Food Policy Task Force, and the media can share and debate the successes and failures, mobilizing more people to get involved.

The revolution can be easily spread across America. It won't be so obvious that is happening — in LA all the gains are concentrated in a small space — but all of these things can be done up and down the country by anyone wanting to contribute to a national sustainable food revolution.
