Tracking Stimulus Funds
I promise to stop writing about the stimulus at some point, but in an Obama presidency, it's really our first major opportunity at all this government transparency and accountability fare we've heard so much about. :)
In addition to Recovery.gov, set up to track stimulus spending, The White House has released a weighty document detailing the stimulus impact on the 50 states. (Don't forget you can just search the PDF for your state's name.) The Center on Budget & Policy Priorities has released an estimate of state-by-state impacts on low- and moderate-income people.
Maine, New York, Virginia, Illinois, Michigan, Colorado and Wisconsin already have websites devoted to stimulus funds up and running. Florida, New Jersey, and a bunch of other states listed here, have appointed "czars" or established offices or task forces to oversee stimulus plans. Rep. Kanjorski in PA has produced a stimulus guidebook. Tennessee and Texas are considering what to do with stimulus funds. Kentucky's plan is announced; Nevada's governor offers a video or audio message. Most other states I found news articles detailing stimulus allocations.
Finally, StimulusWatch.org, allows citizens to suggest projects that should be funded by stimulus money through federal grant programs. WhiteHouse2, more broadly, allows us to suggest our overall priorities for the nation.
Happy Monitoring!
