Transgender Legal Defense Fund Launches Voting Rights Hotline

Election DayGiven the widespread charges (dare I say proof?) of voter disenfranchisement during the last two Presidential elections, it's good to know that lawyers looking out for LGBT rights will be on hand this Election Day, specifically working to make sure that discrimination based on gender identity or gender expression doesn't happen at the polls.

Lawyers with the Transgender Legal Defense Fund (TLDEF) will be working the phones this Election Day from 6:00am to 7:00pm EST, available to take calls from individuals who experience discrimination at the polls on the basis of their gender identity.  TLDEF is committed to ending discrimination based upon gender identity and expression and to achieving equality for transgender people through public education, litigation, direct legal services, community organizing and public policy efforts.

Spread the word on this.  If 2000 and 2004 taught us anything, it's that discriminatory actions at the polling booths can make all the difference in an Election.  Whether it's Florida, Ohio, or one of the other 48 states, discrimination is unacceptable in any form, especially on Election Day.  If you experience discrimination at the polls based on your gender identity or expression, call the TLDEF hotline at 646-862-9396.
