Traveling Music

Traveling at the moment, which means a great deal of quality time with my i-pod.  (Shades of a co-dependent relationship, truth be told.)

Anyhows, now struggling with the same question that has vexed travelers since the days of Magellan, if not before - do I stay with my favorite playlist, or actually try to come up with something new for the trip?

(Little known fact - Columbus preferred smooth jazzRichard Burton, on the other hand, was more of an alt-country fan.)

All of which got me thinking about the best music for long travels.  Music for long flights, music for Caravans, music for the back of a Landcruiser.

So, blatantly stealing a page from my Poverty in America co-blogger Leigh, who posted about the activist's playlist a few weeks back - my favorite traveling songs:

- The Weight - the Band
- Mississippi - Bob Dylan
- Tiny Dancer - Elton John
- Wayside / Back in Time - Gillian Welch
- Take Me Home, Country Roads - John Denver
- Ain't So Lonely - Lucero
- Wagon Wheel - Old Crow Medicine Show
- Caravan - Van Morrison
- What's Left of the Flag - Flogging Molly
- Oh My Sweet Carolina - Ryan Adams
- Live Your Life - T.I. and Rihanna

If anyone has more suggestions, would love to hear.

PS - blogging might be slightly sporadic over the next two weeks.
