True Courage: Responding to Rape in Congo
[Sexual Violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo - Oxfam]
Continuing the effort to write differently about rape - not focusing on women as passive victims, but instead on how women are responding to rape as a weapon of war.
To that end, wanted to highlight a recent video by Oxfam - Sexual Violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo - which tells the story of how one woman, Justine Masika Bihamba, who works to support women victims of sexual violence.
Justine's organization, the Synergy Network for Women Victims of Sexual Violence, engages not only women but the larger community in order address the trauma of sexual violence. With Oxfam's support, the Synergy Network has helped over 7,000 women in eastern Congo.
