The United Students for Fair Trade (USFT) is a national network of student organizations advocating around Fair Trade principles, products and policies. USFT is at the forefront of developing a new generation of leadership in the Fair Trade movement while doing its part to advance this global justice issue. Stay tuned for a future post about this great Fair Trade resource and organization. In the meantime, I wanted to mention USFT's upcoming International Convergence taking place at the University of Washington in Seattle, from November 7th to the 10th.

The theme of this year's convergence is "Fair Trade: Taking it Forward" where the discussion will be centered on taking the Fair Trade movement forward.

...both the movement as a whole and the student movement in particular. The concept behind “taking it forward” is to inspire student activists to challenge the Fair Trade movement to continue evolving by creating new goals and new interpretations of what Fair Trade is and should be.

The Convergence will consist of workshops on Fair Trade with representatives of different companies, cooperatives, and organizations contributing to the discussion. The future of the Fair Trade movement is a discussion that is growing in importance as the movement expands, so this Convergence will surely be an interesting and very important one. I cannot wait to hear what comes out of this great meeting of the minds.

For all the details about the Convergence, please go here or feel free to contact Ashley or Stephanie, at aedens@u.washington.edu or s.e.adler@gmail.com who are coordinating the event.

If you want to be part of the event, you must register. The deadline to register is this Friday, October 24th.

Register as a Student or an Ally.
