Upcoming Human Trafficking Events: April/May 2009

Tis the season for spring gala's, fundraisers, and conferences, oh my!  Here are a few human trafficking-related events going on in the coming weeks.  If there is one in your vicinity, please check it out!

Los Angeles, CA

The Coalition Against Slavery and Trafficking (CAST) is hosting From Slavery to Freedom on April 21.  Ben Skinner will be speaking, and honorees include actress Julia Ormond.  Tickets are available here.

Washington, DC

Free the Slaves is hosting a DC Emancipation Day Parade and Rally for Statehood on April 16 at 11:00am in Franklin Square to honor the 3,100 enslaved persons freed in Washington, DC on April 16, 1862, with a reenactment, music, and poetry...then rally for DC Statehood and the freedom of the modern-day enslaved.  More info on their website.

Fair Fund is hosting their third annual benefit, Pearls of Purpose, on May 7 in Washington, DC.  The honorary guest will be Rep. Shirley Jackson-Lee.  You can get more details and buy tickets here.

Greensboro, NC

NC Stop Human Trafficking will host a church conference on May 3 in Greensboro, NC.  Speakers include representatives from Shared Hope International and International Justice Mission.  More info on their website.

Seattle, WA

On May 9 in Seattle, freelance photographer Tim Matsui will present his work on ALTERNATIVE ENERGY, THE ENVIRONMENT, HUMAN TRAFFICKING AND SEXUAL TRAUMA.  For more info about the show, visit his website.
