US Must Act Against Uganda's Anti-Gay Legislation to Save Lives

by Daniel J Gerstle · 2009-12-09 09:55:00 UTC

Perhaps you've already read that Ugandan lawmakers are developing anti-gay legislation. It's vital to know that this is not only anti-gay but also anti-anyone who is supportive of someone who is gay, anti-someone living with HIV/AIDS, and may actually reduce the numbers of people who get tested for sexually-transmitted diseases. Numbers of people may be sentenced to execution, imprisonment, or forced to flee the country. It is beyond civil rights. It's a humanitarian cause as well. Three options for you.

1. Read Michael A. Jones' coverage of this topic here on Change.org and sign his petition to the Ugandan government.

2. Sign our second petition to President Obama, Secretary Clinton, Assistant Secretary of State Johnnie Carson, Senator Russ Feingold, and Representative Donald Payne.

3. Consider how a travel and investment boycott could best target advocates of said legislation without necessarily hurting others in the country.
