Watch 'Food, Inc.' Free on PBS.org
PBS is streaming the Academy Award-nominated documentary Food, Inc. online this week for free. You can catch it through Friday, April 30, at this link. If you have any interest in the problems with our industrial food system and you haven't seen this film, drop what you're doing right now and tune in.
Watching this film might be the single best thing you can do to gain insight into the issues we discuss on this blog. I listed it among my top five food films everyone who eats should see, and fellow blogger David Orr made it the first step in his five-week crash course in sustainable food.
PBS is also featuring a raft of great bonus content, including:
- an interview with the film's director Robert Kenner,
- a filmmaker's statement,
- the transcript of a live chat with the filmmaker,
- a quiz on your knowledge of GMOs,
- an additional video about why fast food is so much cheaper than healthy food,
- a guide to eating well,
- a slide show of American lunchroom food,
- ways to share and promote the film online,
- lesson plans, and
- excerpts of books such as Micheal Pollan's Omnivore's Dilemma and Eric Schlosser's Fast Food Nation.
The site houses a veritable treasure trove of food-related content. You can even register to win a free Food, Inc. gift basket or learn how to host a Food, Inc. potluck. Check it out now; the film is only streaming until tomorrow.
