Whither Abyei?

Tomorrow is shaping up to be a big, big day for Sudan: A tribunal at The Hague is set to deliver its decision on the boundaries of Abyei, an oil-rich territory claimed by both North and South Sudan. The decision will have huge implications for the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, which ended the two-decade civil war in 2005, and along with it, implications for peace throughout Sudan.

In a rather foreboding sign, both sides are reportedly moving troops to the region.

For detailed coverage of the decision, visit the Enough Project: The team released a strategy paper on Abyei yesterday, and is providing excellent coverage of the issue on their blog.

Will civil war start afresh tomorrow? The NCP rejected the original ruling of the Abyei Boundary Commission in 2005 --- what will happen if either side is unhappy with the decision tomorrow?
